Kantar Media Reports Physicians Turning To Social Networks For Professional Purposes

Princeton, NJ - February 14, 2011 -- According to research conducted by Kantar Media, 37% of U.S.-based physicians are using online social networks for professional purposes.

The study, conducted by Professional Health, a Kantar Media solution, showed that physicians utilizing online social networks for professional purposes log on to such sites an average of nearly 230 times per year.

“It is interesting to note that 41% of physicians who access social networks for professional purposes are active on two or more networks,” says Joe Hardin, Senior Director of Research for Kantar Media Professional Health. “The data suggest that while the market overall is still exploring whether, or how best to engage with professional social media, there already exists a core group of physicians who are heavy users and active on one or more social network sites.”

Kantar Media conducted the internet-based survey among 1,369 U.S.-based physicians to determine online social networks usage. Survey participants were shown a list of seven online social network sites - Concentrica, Lead Physician, Medscape Physician Connect, Ozmosis, QuantiaMD, Sermo, and Within3. Respondents were asked to indicate how frequently they used each site.
